Yes, it is very sad and horrible what has happened in Japan. Thousands of people have lost their lives and it is a tragedy. Personally, I'm tired of hearing everyone talk about sending Japan money. First of all, aren't they a very rich country? Second of all, isn't the United States like billions of dollars in debt? Something is just not right here.
Every day you hear on the news about the government lowering or stopping funding for this thing or that thing. We are helping our own people less and less. I have a friend who has two autistic sons. Her sons both get medicaid because of their disability, but the government is always unwilling to pay for this medication or that medication, and the family can't afford to buy their meds out of pocket, so their children suffer without medication. Right now, thousands of people are out of work and don't have a place to live or to call "home". Shelters and places like soup kitchens are losing funding and many are having to shut their doors, leaving the needy out in the cold, literally. People are dying every day because they can't afford medical care. People are starving because no one here is willing to help. If someone tries to get help, they are looked down on and considered trash or "unworthy". All of these special fundings are being cut to help dig the U.S. out of debt. Thousands of illegal immigrants are allowed to come into our country and steal our jobs, and the government does nothing about it; in fact, people from other countries can come into the U.S.A. and be treated BETTER than Americans!
Why is it that Americans are willing to help other countries but not help their own? Why is everyone rushing to send money to Japan or send our troops to Japan to help them? Why does America always have to look like the "hero" but yet we let down the ones we should be helping the most? Why should I send my money to Japan instead of helping the homeless right here in front of me? Why is everyone else more important then our own country? I just don't get it!!

It's like you're my blog soulmate... *sniff* I FRIGGIN AGREE. It's just like Haiti... always jumping to help others yet we can't fix our own shit. Meanwhile...back in America the education system continues to crumble... Welfare is STILL broken... Social Security is still running out despite how many poor saps pay into it uselessly... Health care still blows... We are still occupying two countries that really are never going to be fixed...
And people wonder why I want my own planet...
IMO it's easier to give to another country because there's no red tape involved. Fixing stuff here requires politicians, and we all know how well that goes.
I think there's also something human about helping someone who's experienced a disaster.....

iYam: I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I'm so sick of all of the fund raisers everywhere you look for OTHER countries! What about people here?? ...The Survival Mama: There are all kinds of organizations people can give money to here without any red tape at all, and the money would go towards helping our OWN people! People in America face disasters every day, it's just not all over the news, so no one gives a shit. You don't know how many times I have given money to be told that I was the only one who took the time to stop and give something all day. I don't have much money myself, but I will give my last few pennies to help people here, while others just walk on by with their $500 purses to get into their $50,000 sports car just to ignore what is right in their face!
