Take Care of Your Animals

I've recently been following the story of Patrick. He is a gorgeous Pit Bull that was  found in a trash bin, starved and almost dead. He is slowly being nursed back to health but has a long road ahead of him. They found his owner, she said she couldn't afford to feed him so she just let him starve then stuffed him in a trash bag and threw him down the garbage chute.

I'm a huge animal lover. I don't understand why people get animals if they aren't going to take care of them? If this woman truly couldn't afford to feed him, why didn't she give him away? I've heard that even some food pantries offer dog food! Why would she just watch him suffer and then throw him away? I see this every day though, when people don't take care of their animals. People leave their dogs outside in all kinds of weather; 100 degree weather in the summer and -20 in the winter. Would YOU want to stay outside in either of these extremes? Or why get a dog if you are just going to keep him tied or penned up, where he only has a few feet to move around, and has to lay in his own waste, and the only attention he gets is when his owner brings him food and water once a day?? If you don't want to take care of an animal, including giving him or her lots of love and attention, then don't get an animal!!  I am just sickened at some of the things people do to their animals. Animals have feelings, too.. you can't just throw them away or ignore them. They want to be loved and cared for the same as you do.

Here is sweet Patrick getting a bath, about 2 weeks after he was found in the trash.

Help Ourselves First!

Yes, it is very sad and horrible what has happened in Japan. Thousands of people have lost their lives and it is a tragedy. Personally, I'm tired of hearing everyone talk about sending Japan money. First of all, aren't they a very rich country? Second of all, isn't the United States like billions of dollars in debt? Something is just not right here.

Every day you hear on the news about the government lowering or stopping funding for this thing or that thing. We are helping our own people less and less. I have a friend who has two autistic sons. Her sons both get medicaid because of their disability, but the government is always unwilling to pay for this medication or that medication, and the family can't afford to buy their meds out of pocket, so their children suffer without medication. Right now, thousands of people are out of work and don't have a place to live or to call "home". Shelters and places like soup kitchens are losing funding and many are having to shut their doors, leaving the needy out in the cold, literally. People are dying every day because they can't afford medical care. People are starving because no one here is willing to help. If someone tries to get help, they are looked down on and considered trash or "unworthy". All of these special fundings are being cut to help dig the U.S. out of debt. Thousands of illegal immigrants are allowed to come into our country and steal our jobs, and the government does nothing about it; in fact, people from other countries can come into the U.S.A. and be treated BETTER than Americans!

Why is it that Americans are willing to help other countries but not help their own? Why is everyone rushing to send money to Japan or send our troops to Japan to help them? Why does America always have to look like the "hero" but yet we let down the ones we should be helping the most? Why should I send my money to Japan instead of helping the homeless right here in front of me? Why is everyone else more important then our own country? I just don't get it!!

Project Runway *Guest Post*

I Never Miss Project Runway

Thanks for the post from Kirk Wood

There's a show on the Lifetime channel called Project Runway that I would have to call my favorite fashion-themed show. It usually comes on my satellite TV from DIRECTSTARTV.COM on Thursdays, so I never miss it; if I'm going to be away from the TV, I always set the TiVo to record it. I think what really makes me like the show so much is that I sew and make my own clothes, so it's really interesting to watch other people's workflow; sometimes I learn something new and adapt it to my own workflow.
The judges are the only thing about the show that I dislike. Every time a model walks down the runway, I can tell that Michael Kors hates what he sees. He always has this sour face like he's sucking on a lemon; what really makes me mad is that I usually like what he hates. Nina Garcia is also bad because she looks at the clothes and bases her decision on whether it would sell or not, instead of judging it on originality and creativity. Either way, I love the show and can't wait for the next season.
